With the technology side of the RFID interaction progressing I have begun experimenting with various housings for the chips and simulating the processes of triggering songs. One of the concepts I liked the most involves embedding smaller chips into small wooden spheres allowing a number of songs to be held in the hand. The ‘record sphere’ incorporates some of the characteristics of vinyl such as the curved feel and rings in the wood round the circumference like the grooves on a record. The packaging for these is one of the next steps to be taken into consideration with this idea, initially I am thinking that a tray could be vacuum-formed out of thin plastic like a box of chocolates and take the overall form of a 12″ vinyl with the conventional artwork. More exploration is needed in this area and elements such as size for storage are factors that need to be taken into account.
